Magical Tome

Charming. James Wilson writes his autobiography about his life in the rough backwoods life of Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas and Texas. He casts himself as a tough, sharp shooting "Robin Hood," standing up for widows and mistreated unfortunates. Even if you take his account with a large grain of salt, it is still a window into the times and into attitudes and habits of the late 1800s. It may make you appreciate how much we have mellowed as a society. My copy, my grandfather's book, has a different title on the hard cover: Travels and Adventures of One of the Bravest Men Who Ever Lived in Texas
