The Populations of Europe

About this book

At the beginning of this past millennium the population of continental Europe - from the Urals to the Atlantic - numbered somewhere between 30 and 50 million; a modest figure for so vast a territory, roughly 10 million square kilometers, much of it well-suited to settlement and cultivation but still abundant in open and relatively unclaimed spaces.
