Magical Tome

THE following letter, dated November 1st, 1881, has been communicated by Mr. Thomas, who was then gardener to Sir Robert Peel, Bart, of Drayton Manor Gardens, Tamworth, enclosing one, which appears on page 14, from Mr. Barter, who is an extensive and successful grower of Mushrooms for Market on beds in the open air:- I have lately had a correspondence with Mr. J. F. Barter of Portland House, Lancefield Street, Harrow Road, London, W., who earns a living entirely by Mushroom-growing and spawn-making, which business he tells me he has followed for seven years.
