Although many books and papers refer to the case histories of Hinshelwood (1900) and Morgan (1896) describing word-blind children and the recognition of acquired dyslexias from the beginning of the century, it was not really until the 1970s that dyslexia has been recognized as a specific learning difficulty in this country.
