The history of attribution theory originated in the writings of four main authors: Fritz Heider (1958), who wrote about dyadic relationships; Edward Jones and his collaborators (Jones and Davis, 1965; Jones and Nisbett, 1972), who researched dispositional ascriptions; Harold Kelley (1967), concerned with personal interdependence and inferential processes; and Julian Rotter (1966), who investigated individual differences in causal perceptions.
