On Jan. 29 1990 Sabah Daily featured a story on the sale of Casa aircraft and how a member of the Motherland Party (then ANAP, now ANAVATAN) was involved in the tender. The story voiced claims of technical failure and corruption in the tender. Nezih Tavlaş, the journalist who penned that article in Sabah Daily in 1990, later wrote a book titled the “Casa Olayı” (The Casa Incident), in which he underlined that a negative report was prepared about the Casa aircraft after it was tested by the Air Force that highlighted technical deficiencies in the aircraft. No one paid attention to this report and subsequently three Casa aircraft crashed one after the other. No one asked any questions and no one gave any explanations.
