The last ten years has seen the issue of globalization moving from one in which it was incumbent to prove that there was such a phenomenon as globalization (Castells 1996; Giddens 2001) to a situation where there is broad acceptance that there has been a fundamental change in the environment in which humanity finds itself, in comparison with the world of our ancestors.
