'Blood brings blood and more blood': so said the future poet-laureate Yiorgos Seferis, soon to become director of the political bureau of Regent Damaskinos, in a somewhat cryptic January 1945 postscript to an earlier poem of his; a seemingly resigned outlook conditioned upon his perception of the Dekemvriana, that landmark in the evolution of postwar Greece, as a hideous spectacle of 'buffoons'.
