Magical Tome

This first account of the Pepys bindings to be published is the work of the foremost authority on the history of English bookbinding. The introduction gives an account of the investigations by which the various types of binding in the Library were identified and dated. A list of all the volumes, with a note in each case of the type of binding, is accompanied by descriptions and illustrations of a number of fine bindings and illustrations of the main styles commissioned by Pepys himself.
