Calder Sculpture

About this book

To mark the centenary of Alexander Calder's birth, this volume is the first account of this major twentieth-century artist's sculptural progression - from his figurative wire sculpture and abstract mobiles and stabiles, to his monumental public works. Images of Calder's pioneering works of art, along with rarely seen archival photographs of the artist in his studio and installation shots of his public sculpture, illuminate an extraordinary body of work that is marked by innovations which challenge the principles of Modern sculpture. The text by Calder's grandson adds a unique, biographical component to this tribute to a modern master.
